  1. lölinå:: I can hardly wait for this movie! I really admire Jeunet’s movies; combined with the charm of Tautou they make fireworks of emotions and outstanding impressions. Now I’m looking al least for a screener of the Un long dimanche de fianc, ailles and I hope to find it as soon as possible becasuse I can hardly wait! ::))

WorkingNob:: Irréversible is one of the most outstanding movies in the French cinema for the last few years. I really admire it. I know a lot of people who have told me that its brutality and direct exhibition are making it a crap but I think that the line between the ugly pornography and the art sometimes is very thin and in this case the sense of tact is kept within the limits. The movie has sense up to the latest sequence and the final caption saying that “Time destroys all things.”
Indeed, even the bad things. I hope you enjoyed this movies as much as I did! :)

  2. lölinå, WorkingNob,
I absolutely agree with you. The European cinema is much more deep but on the other hand Hollywood is producing so many movies and only the once with big budget and campaigns reach Europe. David Lynch for example is one of the American directors who I really really admire. Starting with the series of Twin Peaks in the 90s (when I was too young to understand clearly) I got really addicted to him after seeing movies as Wild at Heart, Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive.
As for Before the Rain, I agree that it’s a true masterpiece. But the Balkans cinema is showing a world that has nothing to do with the Western European one. I haven’t had the chance to see other Manchevski’s movie, but I remind of another Yugoslavian director - Emir Kusturica who made Crna macka, beli macor (Black Cat, White Cat), Underground and Arizona Dream, Tanovic's No Man's Land or Goran Paskaljevic's Bure baruta (Cabaret Balkan). The former republics of Yugoslavia have totally mad productions. To people with different culture background, all these movies seem meaningless and absurd, but the fact is that the Balkans are like this. People are obstinate to mulish, somehow chaotic, somehow alcoholic, somehow genius when it comes to querilla methods and surviving, somehow sentimental. Diversity is the key. :)

  3. WorkingNob, the Guy Madden sounds unfamiliar to me. I tried to find something about it on the net searching in the IMDB data-base but no resut came back. So, I’d like to ask you to give me a clue about Guy Madden, as I’m quite curious...
