Meet Stepan
Stepan is guinea pig. Stepan is probably male, about 4 months old and really fluffy. Like many angora guinea pigs he has his fur more than ten santimeters long.
Stepan enjoys peanuts and lettuce but sweets are strictly prohibited.
Stepan lives on the third floor in an apartment building and shares the tender love of two friends of mine: Ina and Todor.
A few fast facts on the guinea pigs:
- Their original home is South America.
- They were first brought to Europe by the conquistadors.
- They were called Guinea pigs because in England they were sold for a guinea.
- In South America they still eat them and look after them as tasty domestic animals.
- Their teeth grow through all their life and need to gnaw to wear them out and be able to eat.
the drama
I was reading an article for a girl who was arrested for deleting her ex-boyfriend save-games after logging in on Lineage with his account. When I saw the banner of the left. Okay, no matter that I'm far from programming I followed the link when I came to another one offering "Game industry: Scholarship for women". Now try to convince me that there is no sexism on the computing. Back to the romance with the deleted save-games, you can read it by yourself here. |

About Burton
The latest from Tim Burton is Corpse Bride. The movie is telling the story of a man stolen away and forced to get married to a bride from the afterlife world while in the same time his true love is waiting for him in the world of living. The new place turns out to be much more interesting than the 19th century epoch in which the young man used to live, but he leaves it to go back to his true love. The movie is based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and actually this is its second filming, first time being Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and directed by Mel Stuart. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a story of a poor boy who wins from a lottery the opportunity to take a tour in a mysterious and astonishing chocolate factory. Burton style filming all way long. + The 2005 Calendar
The previous post reminded me that recently (this Christmas) I’ve got quite a pleasant present from a friend of mine – the Diskworld 2005 Calendar. Well. I still have this feeling that I blackmailed him with my constant questions after he made the mistake to tell me that he bought this illustrated calendar. However now it is proudly hanged on my wall. Every month is exhibited by different illustrator and scene from Pratchett’s books. Some of the artists are Paul Kidby, David Wyatt, Edward Miller, Sandy Nightingale, Les Edwards, David Frankland and Jackie Morris. Get jealous: here |
Nanny Ogg's
Finally I finished the Nanny Ogg’s Cookbook. For the ones not very keen on Pratchett, this is a book. A book from the Discworld series. I bought it about a month ago, but I couldn’t find time to read it. Instead I started from the middle (around the Dwarf Cookery) then moved forward to the beginning of the book and ahead to the end. This weekend I read it, the whole of it, looking carefully at every single amazing illustration (all made by Paul Kidby). The edition is great, I love it. If you happen to have a free weekend, don’t wonder how to spend it – book. Links: Transworld and Kidby’s website. |
Focus on Macintosh
A very important to me someone is about to start work for a software company developing desktop applications for Mac. This led me to do some reading on Apple. That is how I found http://www.folklore.org - a web site devoted to collective historical storytelling on Apple.

me: yer, sometimes. what's up?
client: well some dumb fuck super glued my fucking mouse to my desk.
me: (supressing laugher) I see.

me: yes, but how does that help?
client: they've left a porno movie playing and I have a meeting in 30 seconds.

My New Year eve shopping
The last thing, which I took from 2004, was a set of funny books called Тhe Horrible Science (ot something like this). They are all translated to Bulgarian but yet extremely funny. I spotted them in a petrol station (we should fill in the tank before starting off to this weird country house where we celebrated the New Year) and the truth is that all night I was thinking of them more than I was thinking of our NY party. A day later –today- I finished the first two of them and nothing could bring me over to drop by another petrol station in search of the other books from that series.
You can get a general idea of the books, the authors and the illustrators from the page of the official publisher Scholastic and from Amazon.
